The New Year will bring in a host of new movies, most of which are expected to change the face of the Bollywood industry forever. Dharma Productions head honcho, Karan Johar, is expected to do his part in giving Bollywood fans a taste of great cinema. The filmmaker has had a hayday at the box office in 2012 with all of his releases being proclaimed hits. In the previous year, Karan Johar reinvented the cult favorite film Agneepath and produced Shakun Batra’s hit, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Apart from that, Karan Johar also gave the silver-screen a h
ost of promising new actors with his fifth directorial venture, Student of the Year. The film starred four debutants, the model-turned-actor Siddharth Malhotra, director Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt, filmmaker David Dhawan’s son Varun and actor Boman Irani’s son Kayoze.
In the New Year, Karan Johar plans to work on a period romance written by his late father, Yash Johar. “It’s a period love story and it’s a script I have had for the past eight years. In fact, my father had researched the film. He had gone to Lahore for three months before he passed away. After his demise, I had such an emotional attachment with the script that I couldn’t bring myself to work on it,” said Karan Johar.
Apart from that, Karan will also produce director Punit Malhotra’s next starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor and the film adaptation of the book 2 States. The latter will be a co-production with Sajid Nadiadwala and will star Arjun Kapoor. As for the aforementioned period romance, Karan will begin work on the film only later this year.
